Job Description:

We are currently seeking an experienced Real Estate Property Accountant/Controller to oversee all facets of commercial and multifamily property management accounting. From our offices in Fort Lauderdale, we invite candidates from all professional backgrounds and industries to connect with us and discover everything Berger Commercial Realty has to offer.

The ideal candidate brings 3–5 years of commercial real estate property accounting experience and is familiar with lease accounting requirements in accordance with GAAP. We’re looking for someone motivated—ready to improve processes and deliver exemplary service to both internal and external customers.

Role Highlights:

As a Senior Property Accountant / Controller, you’ll own the full accounting cycle for an assigned portfolio, partnering closely with operations and ownership to safeguard accuracy, optimize cash flow, and elevate financial performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Portfolio/Asset Managers to maintain profitability of the portfolio.
  • Own cash management for assigned assets, including funding requests and monitoring liquidity.
  • Assist with onboarding/accounting setup for new property and portfolio acquisitions.
  • Perform timely, accurate bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare, review, and distribute month-end financials; propose and post adjustments as needed.
  • Assemble monthly financial packages (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Budget Variance, Executive Summary).
  • Review and analyze AR/AP transactions for proper coding and posting; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Complete Balance Sheet tie-outs and maintain supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and post accruals with supporting documentation and reconciliations.
  • Post to registers and ledgers; reconcile accounts; prepare journal entries and adjustments.
  • Prepare year-end packages for tax accounting and external audits.
  • Communicate directly with clients and ownership with clear, professional reporting.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 3–5 years of commercial real estate property accounting; solid understanding of GAAP and lease accounting.
  • Full-cycle accounting experience in CRE (emphasis on commercial property management preferred).
  • 4-year degree in Accounting or Finance preferred (or Associate’s with experience to offset).
  • Proficiency in Yardi (REQUIRED).
  • Strong variance analysis skills (actuals vs. budget/historicals).
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, and multi-task while meeting deadlines with accuracy.
  • Collaborative team player with high ethical standards and a positive attitude.
  • Proficient with MS Office; advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus, not required.

This is a full-time, exempt position based in our Fort Lauderdale office (in-person).
